Healthy seating in the office

The office is often the place where we spend most of the time of the day. We arrive in the morning and leave in the dark. So it’s natural that we like to personalise this place. For some, minimalism is typical, others like the kind of chaos on their desk that lets them know they’re working a lot. But there are some things that everyone should have in their office. Can you guess which ones? We’ll give them to you straight.

FLOWER AS A REMEDY FOR A HEALTHY WORKING ATMOSPHERE

There are many worldwide surveys, one even conducted by NASA itself, that talk about the beneficial effects of plants in the workplace. It’s not just an aesthetic function that helps give even the most impersonal offices a more sympathetic touch. Houseplants can also have a positive effect on the overall atmosphere in the office. They filter the air, humidify it and even remove harmful toxins from it. They are also a good dust and noise absorber. And research also talks about their effects on the human psyche and productivity, which increases as the flowers grow. So there are enough facts behind them, you just have to choose. For example, ivy, chrysanthemum, fern, palm or dracaena are suitable for the office.

CUP AS A DATING AND REMINDER

Coffee drinkers and tea lovers alike can well appreciate the presence of their own cup in the workplace. If you have brought your own cup to the office, you don’t have to wash it regularly after someone else, just after yourself. You always know where to look for it and it often represents a piece of you and your personality. Whether it’s a cup from your last vacation or it was a humorous gift from friends. The cup is also the glue that holds us together with others in the workplace. Brief discussions over coffee can refresh the mind and body, which is a welcome distraction from the workload for people with sedentary jobs. And lest we forget, its presence at the table also reminds us to drink regularly. When there’s a cup on our desk, we tend to grab it and take a sip, which helps us keep to our drinking routine better than when it’s not there.

HEADPHONES FOR CONCENTRATION

Sometimes, especially when working in an open office, it is very difficult to maintain concentration. We are all different, someone needs music to work, another needs to have a word with a colleague, another likes to talk loudly on the phone. If you are doing a job where you need to concentrate, headphones are a very handy helper. They are not always just for listening. If you need to mute the noise from the surroundings or make it clear to other colleagues – do not disturb – they will help then too. Of course, if you’re working with audio or need to learn something from a video conference, you’ll appreciate them then too.

THE CHARGER MUST BE

If you work in an office, you can almost certainly say that you probably work on a computer. You probably have a mobile phone as well, and you may even need to present on a tablet occasionally to function. A charger is as necessary as salt in the office. Office phones have long since ceased to be just the “on the dime” ones, and if your office phone happens to run out of power before an important meeting, that’s too bad. Nowadays it’s a bit easier to borrow a charger from colleagues, but the law of convenience is that when you need to recharge your phone, that’s when your colleague needs to charge it. Do you sometimes find that you don’t even have anywhere to stick the charger because all the sockets are taken? Nowadays, we carry a charger to work just as necessarily as we carry our keys, or we even get a spare: one for the office, one for home or the car. It’s nice that today we can spice up even such a cool gadget by buying a charger in colourful versions.

CHAIR AS A HEALTH AID FOR YOUR BACK

And probably the most important thing that should not be missing in any office is a proper chair. Sedentary jobs are a huge risk not only to our backs, but also to our overall health. Therefore, even though the price of a good quality, preferably ergonomic, chair may seem high at first, it will pay us back a hundredfold in health. After all, just do the math on how many percent of your day you stand and how much you sit… For that reason alone, you should think of a medical chair as essential equipment for your cacenlary. And if your boss won’t get you one, it’s worth sorting it out your own way and investing in yourself, your health. But beware of ordinary chairs. With those with a fixed seat, the entire weight of the body rests on the spine, which can lead to lower back pain. Such improper seating can over time cause spinal strain, pain in the shoulder muscles, neck muscles and reduced mobility.

If you do decide to invest, make sure you invest in an ergonomic chair that allows you to sit actively, follows your body movements and thus aligns your spine and pelvis and optimally supports a healthy posture. One of the best in the country, for example, is the Spinergo. Clinical studies have shown that Spinergo health chairs are currently the healthiest way to sit.

So, how are you? Do you have any of these ‘tools’ in your office? If so, know that you’re doing just fine. ?
